Having a driver’s licence can make a big difference to the opportunities available to our young people and their overall independence.

The Waitakere College Foundation has been supporting a programme for students to study for and get their learners licences for a number of years now.

ACC and the New Zealand Transport Agency sponsored a report in 2016 which looked at the impact of having a driver’s licence and found that 70 per cent of jobs require a licence.  Where students aren’t easily able to access the help and support needed to get their driver’s license; we step in.

“A driver’s licence is a huge asset for job seekers, while not having one can be a gateway to benefit dependence and justice consequences.”

Employers routinely required applicants to have a licence, even when driving was not part of the job.
